| Debra Conner began portraying Emily Dickinson in 1997, thanks to a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Since then, she has performed for Humanties Councils in many states, including Maryland, Ohio and Arkansas. She has appeared at the Baltimore Museum of Art, at the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Celebration, at Mount Holyoke College and aboard the Delta Queen riverboat line. For several summers, she toured with the Ohio Chautauqua program. Since 1998, she has been part of the West Virginia Humanities Council’s History Alive! Program. Debra also conducts workshops and residencies in creative writing. She is part of the Ohio Arts Council’s arts in education program. Her writing has appeared in many publications, including The West Virginia Encyclopedia, Fifty Years of West Virginia Poetry and in Ohio Schools magazine. In 2003, one of her poems was selected by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to appear in a specially commissioned broadside. |
